The Snow is Melting....

This week, I looked out to see the snow melting and the water beginning to flow. I’m excited to see the spring, but I decided to finish off a few ideas with snow in the paintings. In the painting “First Snow,” I enjoyed mixing the winter backdrop with the Aspen trees and colors of the transitioning seasons. Now it is time for transition to spring!

Have a look at these and some of my other favorite works of art here in my gallery.

All in a weeks work!

Hi All,

This week, I focused on finishing some portraits. Some of these are a new take on an old favorite: Gus. I sought to capture Gus in a new light, with a some additional “wear and tear” in his face and additional detail in his scarf. Check out these recent additions to my Favorite Works Gallery and be sure to reach out to me by clicking Contact Me if there is something that you would like to add to your own home (or Mountain Lodge!).

Enjoy!

Gus

For fans of old western movies, you might recognize this familiar face: Gus. After wearing out the old VCR tape of Lonesome Dove, I decided to find another way to capture the essence of the movie by painting Gus. I enjoyed the challenge of capturing his his emotions - his eyes 'pop with a sense of light and the knot on his handkerchief is tied forcefully so it won’t fall off in the wind while he is riding.

If you have any favorites from your old western movies that you want painted, reach out to me via the “Contact Me” link and let me know!

A Spring Thaw

While we might be in the dead of winter now, this painting brings me joy because it focuses on the sprint thaw. Water runs off the higher mountain slopes as this mountain man brings his furs down the mountain. As I painted this work, the sense of depth kept drawing me back to this piece. From the purple tinted slopes in the background to the staggered horses, this painting offers many layers. What do you think has caught their eye off to the side?
